Cost of India's Mars mission Rs.450 crore (about $72.9 million)

It's suprising that India's Mars Mission is cheaper than the Hollywood sci-fi films.  Well not just Gravity but it is cheaper than most of the space and science fiction movies made in the West. Take a look at the films which were made at whopping budgets.
 
Here are ten Hollywood films which are costlier than India's Mars Mission:
 
1. Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014): $210 million
Transformers: Age of Extinction is the fourth installment of the live-action Transformers film series and stars Mark Wahlberg in the lead role. A sequel to Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the film takes place a pre-historic time where ancient beings known as the Creators detonate many Seeds, wiping out all life on Earth.
 
 
Gravity (2013) - $100 million
'Gravity,' a 3D thriller about two stranded astronauts floating through space, set a box office record. The film starred Oscar winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney and wowed critics with its special effects. In 'Gravity,' Bullock plays a novice astronaut and engineer alongside Clooney as a mission commander.
 

Elysium (2013) - $110 million
Elysium is a 2013 dystopian science fiction action thriller film written, directed, and co-produced by Neill Blomkamp, and starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. The film that takes place on Earth, and a space habitat called Elysium explores political and sociological themes such as immigration, overpopulation, health care, exploitation, the justice system, and class issues.
 

Avatar (2009) - $257 million
Avatar is an epic science fiction film directed, written, co-produced, and co-edited by James Cameron, and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Joel David Moore, Giovanni Ribisi, and Sigourney Weaver. The film is set in the mid-22nd century, where mining of precious mineral called unobtanium by humans on a habitable moon, Pandora is threatening the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi - a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora.
 
 
Men in Black 3 (2012) - $215 million
Men in Black 3 is a 2012 American 3D science fiction action comedy film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Josh Brolin. In MIB 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back in time. It is the third installment in the Men in Black film series based on Lowell Cunningham's The Men in Black comic book series.
 
 
 

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) - $220 million
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a science fiction action film directed by Michael Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. It is a sequel to 2007's Transformers and the second installment in the live-action Transformers series. The plot revolves around Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf), who is caught in the war between two factions of alien robots, the Autobots and the Decepticons.
 

Wall.E (2008) - $109 million
The film focused on a robot named Wall-E, who was designed to clean up waste covered Earth in the future. Wall-E falls in love with another robot named EVE, who also has a programmed task, and follows her into outer space on an adventure that changes the destiny of both his kind and humanity. In terms of designing, the film was the most complex Pixar production since Monsters, Inc. as Pixar films have up to 75,000 storyboards, WALL-E required 125,000.
 
 

Battleship (2012) - $209 million
Another expensive film is Battleship which is a 2012 American military science fiction war film loosely inspired by the classic board game. The film was directed by Peter Berg and released by Universal Pictures. The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna, John Tui, Brooklyn Decker and Tadanobu Asano.
 
 

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) - $201 million
The first in the the franchise was directed by Michael Bay and produced by Steven Spielberg. Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro reprised their starring roles, with Peter Cullen and Hugo Weaving returning as the voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron. Dark of the Moon had employed both regular 35mm film cameras and specially-developed 3-D cameras, with filming locations in Chicago, Florida, Indiana, Milwaukee, Moscow, and Washington, D.C.
 
 
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) - $100 million
Rise of the Planet of the Apes was directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring James Franco, Freida Pinto, and Andy Serkis. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The plot revolves around a scientist's test of viral-based dr and it's aftermath.
