A glance at our Star Jury of India Film Project 2014!

11:53 AMIndia Film Project

Working for almost 2 years now, India Film Project has always been successful in astonishing me with a bag full of surprises.

The greatest quest this year in our minds was, who would be the jury of IFP 2014? From the list full of great names we happen to come  across Shyam Benegal. I hadn't known until now that he was 7 times national award winner! It takes huge efforts to decorate them in your house.

And then I happened to meet the Padma Bhushan award winning director who was born in 1934 in Andhra Pradesh. His journey started from advertisement and continued to films. He made his first feature film, ANKUR in 1973 giving Hindi cinema a gem like SHABANA AZMI. ANKUR received criticism for being Un-Indian in its approach. He became a profile director and a screenwriter.
After he made his feature films, he created a new genre called MIDDLE CINEMA. He received Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, the greatest achievement in their respect. And finally he received an Indian version of OSCARS; DADASAHEB PHALKE AWARD for the year 2005. He won National Film Award for best feature films, 7 times!
He taught the students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).He has made 70 documentaries and short films. His documentary called ‘A child of streets (1967)’ was widely appreciated. He has been one of the greatest benchmark the Indian Cinema has received.
He being a part of our jury already got us 5 stars on our rating scale!

Getting Hansal Mehta as our jury was a blessing to us as he connects awesomely with the Layman's outlook.

Until now I hadn’t known this that Hansal Mehta started his career as a director with India’s most famous cookery show for food-lovers; “KHANA KHAZANA” hosted by Sanjeev Kapoor for almost 7 years. Along with that he directed certain short love stories and came up with a daily soap RISHTEY.
He was the man behind the successful film DIL PE MAT LE YAAR in 2000 featuring Manoj Bajpayee. In 2012 he came up with his most critically acclaimed film SHAHID, based on the murder of lawyer Shahid Azmi which made him win a National Award for Best direction in 2013. His recent film CITY LIGHTS also received great appreciation.
He surprised me with being the man behind such great shows and films. And I am so sure that he is going to be a tough yet a fun jury to have on board.

I always loved to watch the film Oh My God on the screen, but the moment i got to know that the same director is going to be a part of our jury this year, i skipped a beat. I loved that movie to the core for it shook all of the hearts.

Coming across a director who moved everybody’s heart and questioned their modesty for their particular religion with his blockbuster film OH MY GOD! was a happy moment.
He has been a power of source behind many plays. His most famous play was Kanji v/s Kanji which was played across the world and has more than 500-1000 plays schedules.

He then adopted his own play and made it into a film starring legends like Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Mithun Chakraborty and made OH MY GOD!
In 2012 he signed a 5 films contract with T-Series, and is currently shooting All Is Well with Asin and Abhishek Bachchan. He is soon going to work with Amitabh Bachchan and Paresh Rawal for his next film.
And the Hindi cinema awaits more surprises from this intellectual director and having him on board is more than a privilege.

India Film Project 2014 will definitely see brilliantly cut films when we have such an inspiring, intellectual and star jury on the rafter.
